Ariana Grande and Bella Hadid get candid about body shaming

Ariana Grande posted a video on TikTok, talking about the recent comments made about her body and highlighted the negative impact it had on her mental health.

Ariana Grande Addresses "Concerns" About Her Body

Emphasising on the importance of being kind, she said, “I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what. If you think you’re saying something good or well intentioned, whatever it is: healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sexy.”

This incident occured after the singer posted a few pictures from her R.E.M. Beauty shoot and was bombarded with unsolicited comments about her weight and physical appearance in general. People online were allegedly comparing her body with how it looked in 2020 and the Thank You Next singer made a sad revelation about this observation. “I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy,” Ariana adressed in the same video.

Bella Hadid came in support of the pop icon and amplified her message about body shaming further. The Palestinian-american supermodel is known for being vocal about social, political and issues centering mental health.

Bella Hadid Shows Support For Ariana Grande's Message About Body Shaming: 'So Important'

Bella reposted Ariana’s TikTok with a lengthy caption about how appearances can be deceiving and how important it is to be mindful of our comments, even if they stem from a good place. “@arianagrande. you never know what someone is dealing with mentally or physically. Disease or depression . Grief or heartache. You just don’t, and you will never know until you walk in a day in their shoes. Instead of unsolicited advice or opinions, judgement or aggression, just try to offer a helping hand and be kind. There is always a reason for the way people look/feel , so try to be soft , especially when you don’t know someone or what they’ve been through. Instagram is not real and we need to look deeper and consciously remind ourselves that each of us are just human beings trying our best. So next time someone wants to write a nasty article to make fun, or a mean comment to get some likes , just remember that. If someone wants to talk badly about another person , remove yourself from the conversation. It’s so much cooler to be kind. Love you guys. And love you Ari. This is so important , I am very proud of you. It will help so many people. Thank you.” Ariana appreciated Bella’s stance and left a sweet comment under her post.”I love you and your big heart !!!!!!!”

Bella Hadid Supports Ariana Grande After She Addresses Body-Shaming Comments

Recently, the model-activist also shared a post by Everyday Connection, where a long number compliments that have nothing to do with your appearance were listed. Bella urged her fans to be compassionate, empathetic and stressed on camparison being a theif of joy.

Women, especially the ones under the public eye are constantly scrutinized because of their changing appearances. While Ariana is the latest to shed light on this issue, celebrities like Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and Khloe kardashian have time and again requested online haters to be gentler with their words when it comes women and their bodies. Certain aspects about their lives maybe for public consumption, but even celebrities deserve a line of respect when it comes to addressing anything about their anatomy.

The archaic idea of ideal beauty and the standards set for it are harmful in more ways than one. No two women are similar and neither are their journies, then why should they fit within the measurement box created by society?
